Red Bull look to step up their game

2019 Formula 1 season, Round 17

Japanese Grand Prix

Suzuka International Racing Course, Suzuka, Japan
Sunday 13 October 2019

Red Bull Racing will be looking to step up their game when the 2019 Formula 1 season heads to Suzuka International Racing Course for the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday 13 October.

The Austrian team last triumphed in the Japanese GP in 2013 when they still had Sebastian Vettel on their books. In the hybrid era, Red Bull have been out-gunned at Suzuka by Mercedes.

Red Bull driver Alexander Albon

This year Max Verstappen will hope to continue his excellent consistency: the Dutchman has suffered just one retirement and finished in the top five in all but one of the 15 other races this season.

Little wonder he is fourth in the Drivers’ Championship standings, just three points behind Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in the race to be the ‘best of the rest’ behind the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

Red Bull have not won at Suzuka since 2013

Verstappen’s teammate Alexander Albon has performed strongly since replacing Pierre Gasly and the last race in Sochi, Russia was arguably his best drive: the Thai pilot started in the pit lane after crashing in qualifying, but came through the field to end in fifth place.

Albon will hope to backup Verstappen as Red Bull look to challenge Mercedes and Ferrari in what should be a thrilling Grand Prix weekend.
