Here are the top five richest MLB teams according to Forbes.
5. San Francisco Giants
Value: 3,1 billion
Giants are one of the longest-established and most successful professional baseball teams, and have won the most games of any team in the history of American baseball.
The eight-time World Series champions are owned by American billionaire Charles B. Johnson, who has an estimated current net worth of around $4.8 billion.
Last year the team had an operating income of $84 million. Their major corporate sponsors are Yahoo, Coca-Cola, Bank of America, Chevron and McDonald's.
4.Chicago Cubs
Value:3,2 billion
The Cubs won back-to-back World Series championships in 1907 and 1908, becoming the first major league team to play in three consecutive World Series, and the first to win it twice.
Known as the North Siders, the Cubs were purchased by American billionaire Thomas S. Rickets in 2009 for $900 million.
The team had an operating income of $68 million last year. The North Siders' corporate sponsors are Wrigley's, Anheuser-Busch InBev, Under Armour, State Farm, MasterCard, PepsiCo as well as Nuveen Investments.
3. Boston Red Sox
Value: 3,3 billion
The Red Sox are one of the most successful baseball teams in the USA having won nine World Series championships, tied for the third-most of any MLB team.
The team is owned by American billionaire John W. Henry, who is also the principal owner of Liverpool FC, The Boston Globe and co-owner of Roush Fenway Racing.
The operating income of the Red Sox amounted to $89 million last year. Some of their sponsors are Coca Cola, New Balance, Advance Auto Parts and Bank of America.

2. Los Angeles Dodgers
Value: 3,4 billion
Dodgers, who have won six World Series championships, have eighteen Rookie of the Year Award winners, more than twice as many as the second-place New York Yankees (eight).
Guggenheim Partners which is a privately held global financial services firm with more than $290 billion in assets under management owns the Dodgers.
Their sponsors include Chevrolet, Anheuser-Busch InBev, Time Warner Cable and State Farm. The operating income of the Dodgers amounted to $90 million last year.
1. New York Yankees
Value: $5 billion
The Yankees are the most successful baseball team in the USA having won 27 World Series championships and 40 American League pennants.
They are also the second-highest valued sports franchise in the United States and the second in the world, with an estimated value of approximately $5 billion.
Yankees, who are owned by American billionaire Hal Steinbrenner, had an operating income of $35 million last year, but the team had a revenue of $683 million.
"The economics are really important, but we have to deal with the reality of the economics," Yankees president Randy Levine on how the current coronavirus pandemic has affected the team when speaking on The Hill.
"Obviously, television isn’t the whole ballgame as far as the financial economics of the game. Sometimes you’ve got to play the games, play ball, and there are more important things than economics.”
