As a driver charging towards the 2025 Formula 1 crown, McLaren’s Oscar Piastri will hope to emulate his victory at
2024 Hungarian Grand Prix when he takes to the Hungaroring this coming weekend.
Piastri bagged his sixth win of the season at the Belgian Grand Prix this past weekend, ahead of his teammate Lando Norris who could only manage P2 at Spa.
The Australian looked assured during the early stages of the race, as he showcased his skills in the Belgian rain. Piastri further asserted himself on the rest of the pack while the rain subsided and expertly nursed his tyres toward the end of the race.
Reflecting on his race victory, Piastri expressed that making the move to overtake Norris on lap one was crucial regarding his chances of bagging the number one spot at Spa.
“I knew it was going to help me pretty significantly [overtaking Norris on lap one],” Piastri said.
“I had a good run out of Turn 1 and then tried to be as brave as I could through Eau Rouge and was able to stay pretty close. After that, the slipstream did the rest for me. I knew that was going to be pretty important for trying to win the race today.”
As it stands, Piastri remained 16 points ahead of Norris on the Driver’s standings with 266 points to his name so far.
Regarding the Constructors standings, McLaren remain the team to beat and lead the way with 516 points to their name followed by Ferrari with 248 points.
