As another player hoping to shine at
Roland Garros this year, Jannik Sinner could extend his winning streak to 18-matches at major events when he takes on Andrey Rublex on Monday night.
Sinner, who is ranked at number one on the men’s tour dispatched Jiri Lehecka in the previous Round on Saturday. The 23-year-old has now reached the last 16 in eight consective major tournaments, while Rublev had a much easier pathway to Round four at Roland Garros.
Rublev was originally scheduled to face Arthur Fils last time out, however, the 20-year-old was forced to pull out of the tie owing to a stress fracture in his back.
In summarizing his most recent win, Sinner suggested that there isn’t much more he could add to his game from here on out.
"After today I don't think there's much I can improve but every opponent is different," admitted the three-time major champion.
"This morning I said to my team I'm feeling well and physically ready. We had to go hard in the beginning because the beginning is very important for confidence."
As for Rublev, the Russian star expressed that he is focused on himself ahead of his match up against Sinner.
“I don’t think it’s more about the game, it’s more about myself,” Rublev said.
“Game-wise, you cannot control it. You can play amazing out of nowhere, and you can be in your best shape and suddenly play a not good match. So it’s not about the game.”
