2026 Formula 1 World Championship
Brazilian Grand Prix

Second only to the new and reigning Formula 1 world champion in race wins this season, Mercedes driver George Russell will target his fourth win of the campaign at the Brazilian Grand Prix next weekend.
Sitting fourth in the driver’s standings with 250 points, Russell managed only a sixth-place finish in Mexico following numerous complications throughout the race.
Starting second on the grid, Russell battled off the line due to a technical issue and was involved in a collision with Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar at the start, earning a 10-second time penalty.
Russell will enter the Sao Paulo race as a one-time winner, having taken both the main and sprint races in 2022. His win in Brazil was his maiden F1 career victory, while he also secured wins at Australia, Austria, and Azerbaijan this season.

Speaking in Russell’s absence after the Mexico GP (he was excused from media duties), Mercedes Team Principal noted that the Brit was too distraught to speak after watching Antonelli claim the F1 title.
Wolff thus mentioned that it was a ‘catastrophic moment’ for Russell, who was one of the front runners for the crown for large periods of the campaign.
"I saw George after the race on the FIA scales, and obviously he's distraught about the situation," Wolff said.
"It was a great show of sportsmanship to go and see Kimi.
"I have known George for such a long time. So, I saw him and thought, for a racing driver, this is a catastrophic moment.”
