Daniil Medvedev will be keen to redeem himself when he competes in this year's US Open which is the last grand slam tournament of the year.

The Russian star is among the top male tennis players in the world and he is currently ranked by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) as world number two.

Medvedev has never won a grand slam men's singles title in his career, but he reached the final of the 2019 US Open and 2021 Australian Open.

The Monaco-based player has won twelve ATP Tour singles titles, including the 2020 ATP Finals where he defeated the top three players Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Dominic Thiem.

With the  2020 ATP Finals win, Medvedev became the first and only player to defeat the top three ranked players in the world en route to the title.

Medvedev reached the quarter-finals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, but he was ousted by Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta.

The 25-year-old is coming into the US Open having won the recent Canadian Open after defeating Reilly Opelka in the final in straight sets.

Medvedev has stated that his controversial interaction with the crowd at the 2019 US Open was an important learning experience for him as he prepares for this year's tournament.

“With the ups and downs and finishing on a good note and getting the crowd on my side, I didn’t fake anything and didn’t think what I say next,” Medvedev said.

“I just did my job and was myself and people had the chance to decide for themselves which personality and character I have. “I took a lot of things from that. I shouldn’t do what I did in the first round.

“But even when making mistakes you can continue to be yourself and just show who you really are and not when you are angry and lost your temper. I was able to get people back on my side. I think that is important from a business point of view, really important.”
