2020/21 Premier League

29th Season
12 September 2020 – 23 May 2021

The 2019/20 campaign proved to be Dominic Solanke's breakout season despite AFC Bournemouth's relegation from the Premier League

Primarily played as a striker, although he can also operate as a playmaker or winger, Solanke showed why he was once considered among English football's brightest prospects.

Solanke finally established himself as a key player at Bournemouth in the recent season as the 22-year-old looked to help his side avoid relegation to the Championship.

The Reading-born player scored his first and second Premier League goals for Bournemouth in his 39th league appearance on 12 July 2020.

The brace came in the Cherries' impressive 4-1 win over former English champions Leicester City at the Vitality Stadium.

Eddie Howe, the then-Bournemouth manager, praised Solanke and revealed that he always believed that he would be a massive player for the team.

"I thought he was very good today. He took his goals very well, both showed his qualities," Howe said.

"I always believe Dominic is going to be a massive player for us in the future and that will do his confidence the world of good.

"Dominic is a very unique player, he has attributes we really like and value and I think he's done very well mentally to make sure outside noise doesn't affect him.

Solanke then hit the back of the net in Bournemouth's 3-1 victory at Everton on the final day of the league season on 26 July 2020.

However, it was not enough to save the Cherries from relegation to the Championship following a five-year stay in the Premer League.

Solanke inspired England to the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup and received the Golden Ball award for best player in the latter tournament.

The lanky striker, who has represented England at all youth, under-21 and senior level, has also turned out for big English clubs Chelsea and Liverpool FC.

Bournemouth are expected to lose their more experienced strikers Joshua King and Callum Wilson in the upcoming transfer window.

This means Solanke could be the Cherries' first-choice striker next season and he will look to play a key role in helping the team secure promotion back to the Premier League.
