Sheffield to stun City?

2019/20 Premier League

Round 24

21-23 January

Sheffield United will fancy their chances of upsetting the apple cart when they host Manchester City at Bramall Lane on Tuesday 21 January 2020, kick-off at 21:30. The match is one of 10 spread across the midweek of 21-23 January for the 24th round of the 2019/20 Premier League season.

Sheffield’s last home match brought a controversial 1-0 win over West Ham United to keep them in the fight for a place in Europe next season, and the Blades will hope for another victory in this midweek battle.

“There's a fantastic future ahead for the football club, we've put ourselves in a great position,” manager Chris Wilder said. “But I'm never one to sit back and admire and my staff aren't and my players won't.”

City’s last away game produced a 6-1 win at Aston Villa in which Sergio Aguero broke a couple of Premier League league scoring records (highest-scoring foreigner with 177 goals, and most hat-tricks, 12) and they will hope to be as deadly at Bramall Lane.

“I know the guys who score, they were born scoring goals and they will die scoring goals,” said manager Pep Guardiola of the Argentine striker. “Everyone has their own challenges, he has this one. It’s as simple as that. He has a special gift.”

In head-to-head stats, Man City and Sheffield United have met in 122 previous matches. The Citizens have claimed 50 wins compared to 38 for the Blades, while 34 games have been drawn.

When the teams met in the Premier League earlier this season, at the Etihad Stadium in December 2019, City claimed a 2-0 home win thanks to goals from Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne.
