Everton will be aiming to build on their strong start to the 2021/22 English Premier League season when they take on Aston Villa on Saturday.

Villa have endured a mix bag of results so far this season. Dean Smith's troops lost away to Watford on the opening weekend of the season before beating Newcastle United, but a home draw to Brentford was then followed by a 3-0 loss at Chelsea.

In contrast, the Toffees have made a flying start to life under new manager Rafa Benitez.

Everton came from behind to beat Burnley 3-1 on Monday evening to move joint-top of the league standings on 10 points, alongside Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool after four rounds of fixtures.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin missed the home match against Burnley earlier this week and is set to be out of action due to injury for a few more weeks, but new recruits Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend were particularly impressive in his absence.

“I think what the fans want is a team that gives everything and they can see that every day," Benitez said following their win over the Clarets on Merseyside this week.

"The players of last year, maybe they were not performing at the level, now they are giving everything and the fans appreciate that. I think that is the way to move forward.

“What I told the players in the dressing room is we have done nothing yet. We are at the beginning, we have to improve so many things but we are really pleased because everybody is trying to do their best," he added.

Villa took four points off Everton last season. The Birmingham club won 2-1 at Goodison Park before a 0-0 draw in the reverse fixture.
