Matchday 13

Salernitana v Lazio

Stadio Arechi
Salerno, Italy
Saturday, 25 November 2023
Kick-off is at 16h00

Lazio will be seeking their first win in three games when they travel down the west coast to take on Salernitana at the Stadio Arechi on Saturday, November 25.

The Biancocelesti shared the Derby della Capitale spoils with Roma in a 1-1 draw on November 12 to remain winless this month after suffering a 1-0 defeat against Bologna nine days earlier.

Maurizio Sarri's side find themselves four points adrift of the UEFA Champions League places in 10th position and are only one point behind the Giallorossi (7th).

The Granata continue to be rooted to the foot of the table after a 2-2 draw with Sassuolo on November 10 left them without a win in Serie A this season.

They've picked up just five points from their opening 12 matches, but Pippo Inzaghi's side can take heart from Verona and Cagliari's struggles as the bottom three are only separated by four points.

Empoli (17th) climbed out of the relegation zone courtesy of a shock 1-0 win against Napoli on matchday 12, which halted a sequence of two successive losses.

Guillermo Ochoa can expect a busy afternoon in goal as the Campania outfit have conceded the joint-most goals in the league (24) and the Mexican goalkeeper has yet to keep a clean sheet in 12 appearances. He made a total of 73 saves last term to help Salernitana stay up.

Ciro Immobile hasn't made the best of starts to the campaign despite opening his account in the first game against Lecce. The Italy international has only found the back of the net three times in 11 outings, with his last goal coming against Fiorentina on October 30.

Inzaghi sang the praises of Ochoa after the stalemate with the Neroverdi, having seen the veteran shotstopper pull off a string of fine saves to keep his team in the contest.

"Guillermo is a certainty," the AC MIlan legend said in his post-match interview. "He has saved us on multiple occasions.

"Sassuolo found themselves one-on-one with our goalkeeper several times, but Ochoa held really firm."

Sarri was content with the point earned in the derby given the state of the playing surface, although he admits Lazio are finding goals hard to come by this term.

"I am satisfied because the team is growing from a tactical and character point of view," the Italian tactician told DAZN.

"We need to rediscover the offensive danger of last year, we need to start scoring more goals. This is a particular match, the most popular derby in Italy. Difficult to play and manage. When you can't win you can't afford to lose.

"The clearest scoring opportunities were ours but that's okay. It's unfortunate that the pitch is in this condition, it's not up to the standards of these two teams. It's difficult especially for us who want to play from the back."
