Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton will attempt to keep his fading top-two hopes alive at the Las Vegas Grand Prix on Sunday, November 18.

The Brit trails Red Bull Racing's Sergio Perez by 32 points in third place going into the penultimate race of the season. He had cut the gap down to just 20 points after the Mexican Grand Prix, having claimed P2 as 'Checo' crashed out on the opening lap.

But Mercedes were well off the pace in the Brazilian Grand Prix and Hamilton started fifth on the grid before eventually finishing down in P8, while team-mate George Russell retired on lap 58 due to an oil temperature problem.

Things had been looking up for the Silver Arrows after receiving their final upgrade package ahead of the United States Grand Prix, where the 38-year-old took P2 before being disqualified for failing a post-race plank test.

Hamilton now heads to Las Vegas needing to finish within six points of Perez to take the race for the runner-up spot in the Drivers' standings to the final round.

The former seven-time world champion the W14's unpredictability has made 2023 a challenging season, but still praised the team for continuing to push on.

"One thing the car is really unpredictable. In a sense of one weekend it feels good, one session it feels good, and then not," Hamilton told Sky Sports F1.

"I'm sure we will go and look at things and find things we should have done differently but with the one [practice] session it's difficult.

"But I'm still proud of the team, they still came here and did their work, they hold their head up high and that's what we have to continue to do. Just keep pushing forward. Two more races with this thing. Hopefully no more driving it."

2023 Brazilian Grand Prix results:

Winner: Max Verstappen - Red Bull Racing
Second Place: Lando Norris - McLaren
Third Place: Fernando Alonso - Aston Martin
