2021/22 English FA Cup

Final

Chelsea v Liverpool

Liverpool will be looking to keep their quadruple dream alive when they face Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday, May 14.

The Reds won the EFL Cup in February when they beat the Blues 11-10 on penalties after the final finished 0-0 at the end of 120 minutes.

Jurgen Klopp's side are also in the running for two more trophies this season as they will contest the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid and remain in the hunt for the Premier League title.

The Merseyside giants last lifted the famous cup in 2006 when they beat West Ham 3-1 in a shootout at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff following a 3-3 draw after extra time.

Their most recent trip to the final came in 2012 as Chelsea triumphed 2-1 under the arch and 10 years later the two clubs will meet again in the English capital.

Manchester City posed the only real challenge for Liverpool in the competition this term, although Nottingham Forest made them work for a 1-0 win in the quarter-finals.

The Reds beat Shrewsbury (4-1), Cardiff (3-1) and Norwich (2-1) in the previous three rounds before edging City 3-2 in the semi-finals thanks to three first-half goals.

Commenting on the nail-biter against the Citizens, Klopp said: "In the second half, they scored - like we did in the previous game - an early goal, then it's clear, it opens up.

"No football player on the planet feels safe against City with a 3-1 lead, it is always clear what they can do. There were moments when we defended well, but they were one time through and it was like, 'Oops!'

"It was really good; yes, we needed Ali [Alisson], what a game he played, but had our own moments as well and could've decided the game earlier.

"We didn't do it and that makes it a bit more special - 3-0 against City would feel kind of strange. 3-2 is a fair result and this was still good enough to bring us to the final."
