Matchday 37

Leeds United v Brighton & Hove Albion

Elland Road
Leeds, England
Sunday, 15 May 2022
Kick-off is at 15h00

Relegation-threatened Leeds will attempt to arrest a two-match losing streak in the Premier League when a resurgent Brighton visit Elland Road on Sunday, May 15.

The Whites dropped into the bottom three after losing 2-1 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium this past weekend, with Everton having leapfrogged them and Burnley into 16th position courtesy of a 2-1 victory at Leicester.

Jesse Marsch's side are tied with the 17th-placed Clarets on 34 points and they face Chelsea in a catch-up fixture on Wednesday looking to capitalise on the Blues' recent run of poor form.

Marsch admits they are going through a tough spell and is calling on his players refocus their efforts to avoid the drop in the final three games.

"Obviously we are in a difficult situation. We have to regroup and figure out what we can do," he said. "Our backs are against the wall. We are in the relegation zone but we have to fight for our lives."

The Seagulls recorded their second win on the spin with a 4-0 hammering of hapless Manchester United on Saturday to move up to ninth in the standings.

Graham Potter's team will be eyeing three consecutive league victories for the first time this season as they continue to set new club records in the top flight, having already surpassed their best total of 41 points in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 campaigns.

Potter hailed the triumph over the Red Devils as one of the best results during his tenure and was delighted to give the home fans something to cheer about after ending an eight-match winless run at the Amex Stadium.

"It was one the great days," he declared. "We've had a bit of pain in front of our own supporters this season so we owed them one - it was a fantastic performance and an amazing result.

"In an ideal world you want to get most of your points in front of your own supporters because it makes things feel better, so it was nice to give them a memory like that - we're delighted."
