2025-26 Spanish La Liga

Matchday 29

Espanyol v Getafe

RCDE Stadium

Cornella de Llobregat, Spain

Saturday, 21 March 2026

Kick-off is at 17h15

Espanyol will be desperate to arrest their winless start to 2026 when they welcome improving Getafe to the RCDE Stadium on Saturday, March 21.

The Parakeets looked like serious contenders for a top-five finish going into the new year after winning their final five matches of 2025.

However, their European challenge has faltered badly since then, with Manolo Gonzalez's side collecting just four points out of a possible 33.

A 2-1 defeat at Real Mallorca on March 15 extended their winless run to 11 games and left the Catalan outfit four points outside the European places in eighth spot.

Results appear to be picking up for the Azulones after they endured a poor run of form in December and January, which yielded no wins.

Jose Bordalas' side halted an eight-match winless sequence with a 2-0 victory against Alaves on February 8, and they've dropped points just twice since then.

A 1-0 reverse to Atletico Madrid on March 14 was only their second loss in six outings, and the Madrid club is just two points behind Espanyol in ninth position.

Gonzalez believes his team would have beaten Mallorca if not for the controversial dismissal of Charles Pickel nine minutes into the second half, insisting they had the situation under control up until that point.

"From a footballing point of view, the team did well. I don't like bringing these things up to justify a defeat, but it affected the match," he said.

"In a game we had under control, we ended up losing. The team is still alive, however, and against Getafe we will compete at the highest level again.

"It's a match we had under control. In any of our transitions, we could have hurt them. From the sending-off onwards, the game changed.

"Eleven versus eleven, we did well. We have to keep going and make sure it doesn't affect us going into the next game."
