Brad Binder believes the early signs are promising for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing as they gear up for the season-opening Qatar Grand Prix on Sunday, March 10.
The South African impressed on the RC16 bike last year and claimed five podium finishes to enjoy his best season in the premier class after coming fourth in the riders' standings.
Binder came close to his third career
MotoGP win on two occasions in 2023 with P2s in the Spanish Grand Prix and Austrian Grand Prix when he finished behind reigning world champion Francesco Bagnaia both times.
The RC16 received an overhaul in the off-season and the 28-year-old was encouraged by the results in testing after revealing an increase in the RPM which means he is reaching the limiter sooner.
"Engine feeling wise and riding wise, you don't even notice [the power increase]," he said. "You just feel the RPM [rise] up a little bit earlier or the limiter come in a little bit sooner. So it's always ideal when it [happens] like that."
Binder is hoping to avoid a repeat of the problem that plagued him on the Lusail International Circuit in 2023 as he had to fend off Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio for P5 after severe wear on his front tyre.
"The big thing is that last year we were fighting for the podium and on lap 10 my front tyre was finished. That's what we've got to check," he added.
