Liverpool look to blow away Bournemouth

2019/20 Premier League

Round 16

7-9 December 2019

Liverpool will look to overwhelm hosts Bournemouth when the teams clash at the Vitality Stadium on the South Coast on Saturday 7 December 2019, kick-off at 17:00. The match is one of 10 spread from 7-9 December in the 16th round of the current Premier League season.

Liverpool manager Jurgn Klopp

The alarm bells are ringing for Bournemouth, who come into the match on the back of four straight Premier League losses. Their latest disappointment was a 1-0 defeat away to 10-man Crystal Palace in midweek.

“The feeling coming off is as low as I've felt as Bournemouth manager,” admitted boss Eddie Howe after the defeat at Selhurst Park. :The players gave everything, we played like a team lacking in confidence and that can happen in football.

“I don't think there is a lack of effort and I don't think the players walked off not caring about what they delivered, they care deeply. When you are in my shoes you are looking at the coaching side and what your team is delivering and what you worked on and that is why that hurt so much.”

Liverpool continued their superb vein of form by thrashing Everton 5-2 in the Merseyside derby, with manager Jurgen Klopp even managing to rest key forwards Roberto Firmino (who only appeared as a substitute) and Mohamed Salah (who remained on the bench throughout). Divock Origi thrived in their absence, scoring two goals to inspire the Reds to a comfortable victory.

“It is not a number I’m interested in,” said manager Jurgen Klopp after becoming the fastest ever Liverpool manager to reach 100 league wins. “It’s 300 points that’s cool, but only 43 points helps us this season. The boys are the reason for the wins. It’s just a number, it’s cool but it’s necessary too. We have to keep winning.”

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk

In head-to-head stats, Bournemouth and Liverpool have met in 11 previous matches. The Reds have dominated the rivalry by claiming nine wins compared to just one for the Cherries, while one game has been drawn.

Liverpool completed an emphatic league ‘double’ over Bournemouth last season, winning 4-0 at the Vitality Stadium in December 2018 and 3-0 at Anfield in February 2019. Egyptian Mohamed Salah scored four of the Reds’ seven goals across the two matches.
