The Pacers endured a slow start to the regular season, but improved gradually, and they earned the fourth seed in the Eastern playoffs with a record of 50–32.
Coach Rick Carlisle's side overcame the Milwaukee Bucks (First Round), Cleveland Cavaliers (Eastern Conference Semifinals) and New York Knicks (Eastern Conference Finals) in the Playoffs to reach the NBA Finals.
