Johann Zarco will be hoping to register his first win of the current season when he competes in the German Grand Prix on June 19.

The Ducati rider endured a dissatisfying race in last year's German MotoGP as he finished eighth despite having started on grid one.

Zarco finished third in the most recent race in the current campaign which was the Catalan MotoGP on June 5 having been the only rider in the leading group to run with a hard rear tire.

The Frenchman looked destined to finish fourth in Catalan until Aprilia's Aleix Espargaro’s blunder in miscounting how many laps he had left and believing the race had finished a lap early allowed Zarco to pinch third.

Only Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo, the race winner, and Ducati's Jorge Martin finished ahead of Zarco at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Looking at the 2022 riders' standings, Quartararo is still at the top of the standings and he is followed by Espargaro and Enea Bastianini of Ducati respectively.

Zarco, who is currently placed fourth in the standings, will leapfrog Bastianini if he wins the Liqui Moly Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland or finishes ahead of the Ducati rider.

"I was losing the podium, I could not fight for it, I was frustrated to don’t have the possibility of fighting," Zarco said when reflecting on the Catalan MotoGP.

“But P4 was good enough, another good result. “Then there was the surprise on the last lap [with Espargaro’s mistake].

"I thought it was a technical problem, then I saw him with the arms up, I saw he was celebrating. So, I just tried to stay focused, finish the race. It was a nice gift.”

Ducati are placed at the top of the Constructors' championship standings and they are followed by Yamaha and Aprilia respectively.
