Max Verstappen will look to continue his momentum in the 2021 Formula 1 World Championship when Round 8, the Stryian Grand Prix, is held at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria on the afternoon of Sunday 27 June.

The Red Bull Racing-Honda pilot claimed a third win of the season when he took the chequered flag at the French Grand Prix this past weekend, benefiting from his team’s aggressive two-stop strategy to overtake Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton with just a lap and a half remaining.

The result means Verstappen extended his lead at the top of the Drivers’ Championship to 12 points over nearest chaser Hamilton, while Sergio Perez claimed third place to ensure Red Bull are also dominant in the Constructors’ standings.

Winning this race was an amazing team effort and to have a double podium at a track like this really shows the hard work everyone is putting in here and in Milton Keynes at our factory and Honda’s,” explained Verstappen.

Of course, I would have liked to pull off into the distance and cruise ahead on my own but it doesn’t often work like that in Formula One. We really had to work for it today. You can see how close the two teams are and to win like this on strategy with two laps to go is very rewarding.”

The Dutch driver will now hope to make the most of ‘home’ advantage at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, a track where their current straight-line speed advantage over Mercedes should be further enhanced.

Verstappen has also won two F1 races at the circuit, taking the chequered flag in the 2018 and 2019 Austrian Grands Prix, though last year’s events in Spielberg were both won by Mercedes drivers: Valtteri Bottas for the Austrian GP and Hamilton for the Styrian GP.
