Xander Schauffele will be keen to become the third golfer to win the Genesis Scottish Open twice or more after Ernie Els (2000 and 2003) and Ian Woosnam (1987, 1990 and 1996).

What to know about Schauffele

The American star ranked in the top 10 of the World Amateur Golf Ranking at the time he turned professional in 2015, having won the California State Amateur Championship in 2014.

Schauffele has since won 12 professional tournaments, including nine PGA Tour events and won two major championships, both in the same year, the 2024 PGA Championship and the 2024 Open Championship.

News

The 31-year-old took a short break from competitive golf after competing in the Travellers Championship in Connecticut, USA, where he finished 61st.

Schauffele is currently placed third in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) and his best overall ranking is second.

Why Schauffele is among the favourites

The Jupiter, Florida-based golfer will be returning to the Renaissance Club, where he was crowned 2022 Genesis Scottish Open champion by one stroke ahead of Kurt Kitayama.

Schauffele's last win came at The Open Championship in 2024 and the 2012 Big West Conference Freshman of the Year will be determined to secure his first win in 2025 at the Renaissance Club.

Quotes

“Playing in the Scottish Open is a must for someone like me. Just getting enough good nights of sleep, getting on the time zone, learning what it’s like to actually play in wind again," Schauffle said on the Daily Record ahead of the 2025 tournament.

“Every Open is unique. Every venue is unique. I was just told we have record attendance [at Portrush], for obvious reasons. One of their own just won the Grand Slam, so everyone wants to get a piece of him. It’s incredible for the game of golf. There’s no other way to put it, to be honest."
