Webb Simpson will be the favourite to win the 2022 John Deere Classic when he tees off at the TPC Deere Run, but he has never won the event before.

The American star is the highest-ranked player on the Official World Golf Rankings among the players who will compete in this year's John Deere Classic.

Simpson is currently ranked 58th on the rankings with Daniel Berger, who is placed 25th on the table, having recently withdrawn from the event due to an injury.

The American star has won seven PGA Tour tournaments including the 2012 US Open and the 2018 Players Championship, but he is currently enduring a two-year trophy drought.

In 2011, Simpson had his first two victories on the PGA Tour, which came at the Wyndham Championship and at the Deutsche Bank Championship, a FedEx Cup playoff event.

The 2020 year was also a good year for the tall golfer as he won the Waste Management Phoenix Open in a playoff over Tony Finau.

Simpson then won the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links by one stroke over Abraham Ancer - the two wins earned him the Vardon Trophy and Byron Nelson Award accolades in 2020.

“I was so nervous. In my first session on the range, I was like, man, this feels great," Simpson said at the 2022 Players Championship where he was making his return from a neck injury.

"It also felt great to be preparing for a tournament in March and not April or even May. That was the original diagnosis. The news was hard to hear because at first, they said eight weeks

"But then they said maybe four to six [weeks], and then they realized the access I have to my trainer, who is doing my rehab for me, they said The Players is a possible option."

D.A Weibring and Steve Stricker are the most decorated golfers in the history of the John Deere Classic having won it a record three times each.
