United States artistic gymnastic star Simone Biles will look to make history at the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games, set to run from 23 July to 8 August in Japan.

The 24-year-old Biles won five Medals at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, claiming Gold in the Team, All-Around, Vault and Floor events, as well as Bronze in the Balance Beam. She is looking to become the first woman in more than a half-century to repeat as Olympic champion.

In addition, the Texas-based athlete has won 25 World medals, including 19 Golds – the most in gymnastics history. She’s also a seven-time US all-around champion and the first woman to win five World All-Around titles, three World Balance Beam titles, and five World Floor titles.

Yet Biles showed that she is beatable at the recent US Olympic trials, where she was pushed down to second spot in the All-Around category by Sunisa Lee. "I kind of got in my head and started doubting myself," Biles said. "And you could see that in the gymnastics. But just go home, work harder. This is just the beginning of the journey."

Lee believes that Biles is still the dominant force for both the United States team and gymnastics overall, but sees her victory at the trials as a major boost: “I think that gives me a lot of confidence,” the 18-year-old said. “I know it probably won’t happen again because her floor and vault, and she usually is pretty good on everything else. But I was really excited.”

Biles, with her place as gymnastic legend already assured, has revealed that she will try to “live in the moment” more at Tokyo: “2016 was such a blur," she explained. "Once we got over there, everything happened so quick. This time we get to relax a little bit on. And kind of enjoy training and enjoy the process."

Qualification for the Women’s Artistic Gymnastic events will be held on July 25, with the finals set to run from July 27 to August 3 – all at the Olympic Gymnastic Centre in Tokyo.
