Dustin Johnson will be looking to make history at the 2020 BMW Championship which is set to take place in Olympia Fields, Illinois, USA this week (27-30 August).

The American star is hoping to become the first golfer to win the tournament three times having won it a record twice along with golf icon Tiger Woods.

Johnson is one of the longest drivers on the PGA Tour, having been ranked in the top five annually from 2008 and leading in 2015.

The 36-year-old also has six World Golf Championships victories, with only Woods having won more, and he is the first player to win each of the four World Golf Championship events.

Johnson won his maiden BMW Championship title at Cog Hill in September 2010 and he finished the 2010 season ranked fourth on the PGA Tour money list.

It was Johnson's fourth career PGA Tour victory, and his first in any FedEx Cup playoff event.

The South Carolina-born golfer then clinched his second BMW Championship title in September 2016 and finished the 2016 season as the leading money winner on the PGA Tour.

Johnson then won the Arnold Palmer Award and won both the PGA Player of the Year and PGA Tour Player of the Year awards.

The accomplished golfer won the recent Northern Trust with a score of 30 under par at TPC Boston in Massachusetts, in the USA on Sunday.

Johnson, who won the tournament by 11 strokes, was taking part in his first tournament of the 2020 FedEx Cup Playoffs.

The victory moved him to first in the FedEx Cup standings and returned him to number one in the Official World Golf Ranking.

“My ball-striking was unbelievable,” said Johnson on PGA Tour website, who at the end of 72 holes was ranked No. 1 in proximity to the flagstick with approaches, an impressive 28 feet.

“It’s pretty easy when we’ve got big tournaments every week. I didn’t feel like I really did anything wrong at the PGA. It wasn’t something that I was disappointed in.”

The 2020 BMW Championship offers an $11 million purse with a winner's share of $1.98 million.
