2022/23 English FA Cup

Fourth round

Manchester City v Arsenal

Arsenal will be looking to carry their league form over into the FA Cup when they travel to the Etihad Stadium for a fourth-round tie against Manchester City on Friday, January 21.

The Gunners have lost just once in the Premier League this season and lead the Citizens by five points with a game in hand following their dramatic 3-2 win over Manchester United last weekend.

But Mikel Arteta's side don't have a good record against City in recent times, having lost their last five meetings in all competitions since emerging 2-1 victors in the FA Cup semi-finals on 18 July 2020.

The north Londoners, who have won the competition a record 14 times, beat League One outfit Oxford United 3-0 in the previous round.

Eddie Nketiah bagged a match-winning brace against United and he has really stepped up in the absence of Gabriel Jesus, with Arteta praising the impact made by the striker.

"What Eddie is doing is incredible. We cannot say that we saw that, we were hoping that he could do that because of the way he is, because of his mentality, because of his qualities and how those qualities fit within the team.

"Losing Gabby was a big blow, it is a big blow today, but Eddie is responding and the team I think in an exceptional way."

City have lifted the famous trophy on six occasions, most recently in 2019, while they dispatched top-flight rivals Chelsea 4-0 in the third round.

Pep Guardiola's team bounced back from their 2-1 derby defeat to the Red Devils by beating Tottenham 4-2 and Wolves 3-0, and while the Spaniard saw an improvement from his players on Sunday, he hopes they can continue in the same vein in the games to come.

"We spoke a little bit what we have to do with the ball. Without the ball, we didn't train anything because I would say we didn't have energy," Guardiola said.

"We talk a little bit these days about what we think we miss. It's just one game. We will see in the future. Our football was really, really good. Today we improved. That was just today. We will see what happens in the next games."
