Jayden Schaper will be looking to make it back-to-back victories in the Sunshine Tour and European Tour schedule by winning the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.

What to know about Schaper

The South African golfer had a successful amateur career, including a win at the 2019 Junior Players Championship, before turning professional in 2020 at the age of 18.

Schaper was Sunshine Tour Rookie of the Year for 2020–21 and 2021–22. In 2023, he joined the European Tour, where he tied for 16th at the Barbasol Championship in Kentucky, a PGA Tour co-sanctioned event.

News

The 24-year-old was in action at the recent Alfred Dunhill Championship, the latest Sunshine Tour and European Tour event, which was held at the Royal Johannesburg Golf Club, where he was crowned champion.

Schaper is now placed 94th in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) and it is also his best overall ranking heading into the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.

Why Schaper is among the favourites

The young man who is nicknamed Clutch or The Shaper is playing some of his best golf at the moment, as the current month has seen him shoot a final-round 68 to finish runner-up at the Nedbank Golf Challenge, one stroke behind Kristoffer Reitan.

The following week, the Clutch recorded his first professional victory at the Alfred Dunhill Championship. The Schaper made eagle on the first playoff hole to defeat defending champion Shaun Norris and he is now seeking AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open glory.

Quotes

“I saw the lie in the bunker and didn’t even care about the yardage," the Benoni-born golfer said after winning the 2025 Alfred Dunhill Championship.

"I had a feeling. I looked at Keagan, my caddie and he knew what I was thinking. That’s the shot of my career so far.

“It’s been an incredible week. The weather was so tough with the cold and rain. But to get off to this kind of start in the new season – I couldn’t ask for anything better.”
