Contenders for EPL goal of the season so far

Following news that the 2019/20 English Premier League season could return next month, Betway has taken a look at the best goals of the campaign thus far.

Liverpool, who hold an astonishing 25 point lead atop the league standings, are destined to be crowned champions and while the title race is all but decided, the relegation fight and battle for European places remains very much alive.

Here follows five contenders for the EPL goal of the season so far:

Moussa Djenepo

(Sheffield United vs Southampton) - September 2019

The Mali international announced himself to Saints fans in some style with two goals in his first three Premier League games, the second of which was a superb solo effort. Djenepo danced his way past three Sheffield players - the first of which he passed with an eye-catching piece of skill - before driving a low shot past the goalkeeper for a stunning individual effort.

Kevin de Bruyne

(Newcastle United vs Manchester City - November 2019

The Belgian midfielder has always had a knack for scoring great goals and showcased his talent once more with a stunning right-footed rocket for the Cityzens. A defensive clearance fell to the talented playmaker on the edge of the area and after controlling the ball with his chest he unleashed an unstoppable drive which cannoned off the underside of the crossbar and into the back of the net.

Son Heung-min

(Tottenham Hotspur vs Burnley) - December 2019

Son scored undoubtedly the goal of the season thus far in a 5-0 thumping of Burnley late last year. The South Korean picked the ball up well inside his own area before embarking on a lung-busting run which took him past multiple players and after running 71.4 metres in only 11 seconds he provided a finish to match for one of the best ever solo goals in Premier League history.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh

(Brighton and Hove Albion vs Chelsea) - January 2020

After finally scoring his first goal for the club three days prior, the Iranian forward netted a goal which he will find difficult to better in the club's 1-1 draw against Chelsea at the start of the new year. Lewis Dunk's header from a corner-kick floated into his path and with the ball behind him, Jahanbakhsh decided to attempt an audacious bicycle kick and to everyones surprise - including his own - the ball found the back of the net as he fell to his knees in delight.

Matěj Vydra

(Southampton vs Burnley) - February 2020

Goals have been few and far between for the Czech Republic international but in February he finally ended the drought with a stunning solo effort. Vydra took the ball on his chest on the edge of the area, twisted his way past one defender before poking the ball past another and unleashing a left-footed shot that whistled into the back of the net.
