Betway Zambia, in its continued drive to support local communities, ran a Charity Shield promotion which gave punters an opportunity to invest in a local charity simply by placing their bets. For each bet placed, Betway Zambia committed to donate K2 to a suitable cause.
The selected charity is the Female Coach Development Programme based in Lusaka’s Ibex Hill area. The programme aims to up-skill women involved in football coaching, peer education and mentoring around Zambia. The initiative is run under the oversight of Grassroots Soccer Zambia.
“Because we have die-hard fans of the English Premier League in Zambia, we knew that the season opener would be well watched and so we took the opportunity to raise funds for a charity organization. What it meant was that for the Liverpool vs Manchester City game, for every bet placed we would donate K2; the total amount of the donation came to K25, 000 after all placed bets were added” said Betway Zambia Country Manager Panji Kakube.
“We are very excited about this donation as it targets women who are going to make a real difference in the community. At Betway Zambia we are doing our part by supporting female empowerment programs and the coach development program is one such kind.” continued Kakube.
“The donation is a welcome gesture coming from a corporate entity as it is a clear indication that Betway Zambia recognizes and appreciates the work that Skillz Girl Coach Development Programme is doing in the country to enhance the health outcome of young people through female volunteers aged between 18 and 25 years old,” said Grassroots Soccer Zambia Managing Director Boyd Mkandawire.
“We would like to thank the punters who placed bets on the match, as their love for football and responsible betting has made this donation possible,” added Kakube.
