2022/23 English Premier League

Matchday 2

Manchester City v Bournemouth

Etihad Stadium
Manchester, England
Saturday, 13 August 2022
Kick-off is at 16h00

Newly-promoted Bournemouth will have a mammoth task on their hands when they visit Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday, August 13.

The Cherries have never bested the Citizens in any competition and come into this encounter hoping to avoid an 11th straight defeat to Pep Guardiola's side in the Premier League era.

Scott Parker guided the south coast club to an opening-day 2-0 win over Aston Villa at the Vitality Stadium, where goals in each half from Jefferson Lerma (2') and Kieffer Moore (80') secured maximum points.

Parker wants to make their home ground a fortress this season in a bid to prevent an immediate return to the Championship.

"We're a newly-promoted team and we're going into the hardest and most-financed league in the world; we know the challenges and what we're going to face," he said.

"We need to show our physicality, we need to be horrible to play against, teams need to come here and understand they're always in a game.

"While they can win or we can win, I want people to know that when they come here, they're in for a tough afternoon. Then, if they get the points, they're well worthy of them."

City, meanwhile, kicked off their title defence with convincing 2-0 success at West Ham on Sunday courtesy of a brace from new signing Erling Haaland.

Guardiola acknowledged his players were far more aggressive than in the Community Shield, when they lost 3-1 to Liverpool and he was delighted to finally get the better of the Hammers at the London Stadium at the third time of asking.

"Last two years we couldn't do it here," the Spaniard said. "We make an exceptional performance everywhere today. We were much more aggressive. Against Liverpool it was really, really poor, but today we played really well.

"Of course Erling scoring his first two goals is important for him. He has a good threat. Another weapon that we have now, but he isn't going to solve all of our problems.

"We talk about the team, the way we want to play, the way we want to create chances. We found the right moments with the goals today."
