Zambia could not register a single medal at the
2020 Tokyo Olympic Games which was their fourteenth appearance at the international event.
Barbra Banda was the Southern African country's standout performer in Tokyo as she impressed with her goalscoring ability for Zambia women's national team.
In Zambia's first group stage match, Banda scored a hat-trick against the Netherlands, before scoring another hat trick against China with the match ending in a draw.
Therefore, the 21-year-old became the first female player in Olympics history to score back-to-back hat tricks and the first to score two hat tricks in one tournament.
Despite Banda's outstanding performance in Japan, Zambia's Shepolopolo were unable to reach the knockout phase after losing two matches and drawing one.
“We don’t have to relax, we just have to be determined and pick up from where we have ended and make sure that we qualify for the Africa Cup and the Olympic Games again,” Banda said.
Zambia entered three male boxers into the Olympic tournament namely;
Patrick Chinyemba (men's flyweight),
Everisto Mulenga (men's featherweight), and
Stephen Zimba (men's welterweight).
They had secured the spots on the Zambian squad by advancing to the final match of their respective weight divisions at the 2020 African Qualification Tournament in Diamniadio, Senegal.

The trio was able to reach the Round of 16 with Mulenga getting a bye in the Round 32, while Chinyemba and Zimba won their first round matches.
However, the three boxers were all eliminated in the Round of 16 and they failed to emulate Keith Mwila, who remains the only Zambian boxer to win an Olympic medal.
Sydney Siame, who was the first Zambian to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics after he clinched gold in the 200 meters at the All African Games in 2019, could not live up to expectations in Japan.
Rated among the fastest sprinters in Africa, the 23-year-old finished fourth in the 200 meters first-round race and it was not enough for him to advance to the semi-finals.
