Arsenal, West Ham geared for derby clash

2019/20 Premier League

Round 29

7-9 March 2020

Arsenal and West Ham United will be geared for yet another London derby when they clash at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday 7 March 2020, kick-off at 17:00. The match is one of 10 spread from 7 to 9 March for the 29th round of the 2019/20 Premier League season.

Arsenal were last in Premier League action on February 23, defeating Everton 3-2 at home thanks to a brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Manager Mikel Arteta, however, has argued that players are feeling the strain of a tough schedule: “Something has to be done, because you can see players are cracking and cracking every season,” he explained. “You can sustain that for one season, two seasons, but after three or four seasons you end up paying the price and I think the quality at some stage will drop.”

West Ham, meanwhile, secured a much-needed victory by defeating Southampton 3-1 at home this past weekend, with goals from Jarrod Bowen, Sebastien Haller and Michail Antonio.

“We've been in the bottom three for a few weeks and with the fixtures we had there was always a chance we would be, I always thought that once we got those fixtures out of the way, we would have a better chance of winning games,” said manager David Moyes. “We've taken the first one [against Southampton] and we've got to take all of the other opportunities that are coming our way.”

In head-to-head stats, Arsenal and West Ham have met in 141 previous matches. The Gunners have claimed 67 wins compared to 35 for the Hammers, while 39 games have been drawn.

When the teams met in the Premier League earlier this season, at the London Stadium in December 2019, Arsenal won 3-1 away from home thanks to goals from Gabriel Martinelli, Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
