After a largely slow start to the 2025/26 season, Atletico Madrid will now shift their attention to Villareal in their next
La Liga assignment on home soil.
It can be said that Atletico has seen better days and are yet to register a victory in LaLiga after three matches played.
Following a 2-1 loss to Espanyol on the opening day, Atletico recorded back-to-back stalemates with Elche and Alaves before the international break.
While Atletico linger in 17
th place on the table, Villareal currently occupy third after their positive start to the season.
Prior to Villareal’s 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo last time out, the popular Spanish outfit recorded a 5-0 win against Girona, which came after a 2-0 win against Oviedo in matchday one.
Reflecting on his side’s poor start to the campaign, Atletico coach Diego Simeone is confident that they will turn the corner in the near future.
"No [I'm not worried], I’m focused on the points,” Simeone said.
“The first thing is that the team improves, and as a result of that, the points will improve. We’re going to do better than what we’re doing now. We have to keep working, keep faith, and believe.”
