Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen will look to keep chipping away at the two McLaren drivers ahead of him as he chases a fourth victory at the
United States Grand Prix on Sunday, October 19.
The Dutchman has a good record on the Circuit of the Americas, winning there for three years running from 2021 to 2023, while also finishing on the podium in 2018 (P2) and 2024 (P3).
Verstappen has struggled with the RB21 car for much of this season, but he's still managed to claim four victories, including back-to-back races at the Italian Grand Prix and the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The defending four-time champion gained more ground on Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris with his P2 at the Singapore Grand Prix, reducing the gap to 63 and 41 points respectively.
Verstappen had to deal with shift problems during the race in Singapore, claiming the car was "undriveable" over the team radio after he locked up at Turn 14 and narrowly avoided the barriers.
"It was a bit more difficult than I would have hoped for, to be honest. For whatever reason in the race I was struggling a lot with the downshifts and upshifts of the car. It was giving me a lot of pushing under braking, which on a street circuit you don't want!" the 28-year-old said.
"The car was also not where I wanted it to be, unfortunately. A few things of course to learn from that, I think, from some decisions that we made throughout the weekend in terms of the set-up.
"We didn't do a proper long run [during practice], so that doesn't help. But it's not like it's a mystery why it didn't go so well in the race, so we just need to analyse that."
