Serena Williams chases Grand Slam record.

2019 Wimbledon Championships

Women’s & Men’s Singles finals

Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 July

Serena Williams will look to equal Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24 Grand Slam titles when she faces Simona Halep in the 2019 Wimbledon Championships final on Saturday 13 July.

Williams reached 23 major titles in early 2017 and has since blown two chances to go level with Court, including a loss to Angelique Kerber in last year’s Wimbledon final. She will be determined to make it third time lucky.

Williams last won Wimbledon in 2016.

The veteran American has thus far defeated Giulia Gatto-Monticone, Kaja Juvan, Julia Gorges, Carla Suarez Navarro, Alison Riske and Barbora Strycova in reaching the final.

Her opponent Halep has reached the Wimbledon final for the first time in her career, having overcome Aliaksandra Sasnovich, Mihaela Buzarnescu, Victoria Azarenka, Cori Gauff, Zhang Shuai and Elina Svitolina.

Williams will face Simona Halep in the final.

In head-to-head terms, Williams and Halep have met in 10 previous matches – the American has claimed nine wins compared to just one for the Romanian.

Their most recent match was in the round of 16 at the Australian Open earlier this year, where Williams claimed a 6-1 4-6 6-4 victory.
