Barcelona, Dortmund battle for Group F domination

2019/20 UEFA Champions League

Matchday 5

26-27 November 2019

Barcelona put in an underwhelming showing in their last Champions League match, drawing 0-0 at home to Slavia Prague. Despite the disappointing result, the Spanish giants remain top of the table with eight points and a victory over Dortmund will guarantee a place in the knockout phase.

“Right now it’s hard to say if we look like Champions League winners or not. But this club has had occasions when we don’t look all that great but gone on to win big prizes,” said Barca defender Gerard Pique.

“With Luis Enrique for six months we didn’t look like things were clicking but then we won the treble. I’d just ask the fans to show us some patience. We are giving everything to find the way to improve our play.”

Dortmund put in one of their best displays of the season in their last Champions League match, coming from two goals down to defeat Internazionale 3-2 at home. Achraf Hakimi (two) and Julian Brandt shared the goals as BVB triumphed over the Italian side and moved clear into second place with seven points.

"I am surprised that I am the best scorer for Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. I am lucky to be here and happy that I am scoring goals now as well,” said Moroccan star Hakimi.

In head-to-head stats, Barcelona and Dortmund have met in three previous European matches. The Blaugrana have an unbeaten record, with one win and two draws in the sequence.

One of those two draws was played out in Germany when the teams met back in September. Barca goalkeeper Marc Andre ter Stegen put in a superb showing as the game ended 0-0.
