Mackenzie Hughes has set his sights on finishing in the FedEx Cup top 60 as he targets another strong performance at the
Sanderson Farms Championship from 2-5 October.
The Canadian returns to Jackson as a former champion, having beaten Sepp Straka in a playoff three years ago after carding 17-under 271 to claim his second career win on the PGA Tour.
Hughes is 65th in the FedEx Cup standings heading into the second event of the FedEx Fall following his placing of T7 at the Procore Championship a fortnight ago.
The 34-year-old shot a 63 on the first day in Napa which included 11 birdies as he grabbed the early lead before ultimately falling away to finish five strokes behind winner Scottie Scheffler.
Hughes, who has achieved another three top 10s this season, is hoping to be in the frame for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Genesis Invitational early next year.
"The goal is to get into that top 60 and set up my beginning to the year," he said. "I also won't play five, six events to try to chase that.
"I'd love to just play a few and get some good rest and be home a bunch this fall. That's the plan right now. But we'll see what happens."
