A tough test lies in store for Chelsea when they head to the South of Russia for a clash with Krasnodar on Wednesday 28 October, kick-off at 22:00. The match is one of 16 on 27-28 October in Matchday 2 of the UEFA Champions League group stage.

Krasnodar opened their Group E campaign with a 1-1 draw away to Rennes. The home side opened the scoring via a penalty from Sehrou Guirassy, but Krasnodar struck back quickly through Cristian Ramirez to secure a share of the spoils.

"I want to congratulate our lads for the performance,” said Artur Olenin, Krasnodar assistant coach. “They deserved a draw, but we aimed for a win. It is a joy for us to make our debut in the Champions League. We'll do our best to progress from the group.”

Chelsea also opened their campaign with a draw, as they were held 0-0 at home by Europa League champions Sevilla. Given the Blues’ recent defensive woes, keeping a clean sheet will be a welcome relief, though missing out on two points at home remains a worry.

"It's a positive result. I understood the need to get a result in the first game of the group. They're a really good team, it was an interesting game and I'm happy with the 0-0, it was a big deal to get a clean sheet,” said manager Frank Lampard.

"Sevilla are one of a lot of teams that could win it. We're early in our season, we're going to get better and it was a nice sign to keep a clean sheet. We're going step by step at the moment."

The other Group E match on Wednesday 28 October sees Spain’s Sevilla welcome French side Rennes to Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
