Chelsea vs Hull City

Stamford Bridge, London

Saturday 12 September, 16:00

Chelsea will look to bounce back to winning form in the Premier League, but they face a potential banana skin in their Matchday 4 opponents, Hull City. The clash is set for Stamford Bridge on the afternoon of Saturday 12 September, kick-off at 16:00.

Form

Chelsea suffered a first league defeat of the season when they were beaten 2-1 at champions and arch rivals Arsenal on Sunday. The Blues claimed an early lead via Morgan Rogers, but ultimately succumbed to the Gunners.

Hull, meanwhile, remained unbeaten in the league this season by holding Aston Villa 0-0 at home this past weekend. The Tigers are placed third on the log after three rounds, with only Arsenal and Manchester City placed above them.

Team news

Chelsea, who will face Leeds United in a midweek League Cup tie, are set to be without Moises Caicedo, but there is hope that summer signing Marco Palestra could return from a minor injury sustained in training.

Hull, who will be in action against Sunderland in a midweek League Cup tie, will be without Ilyas Ansah and Hidemasa Morita, but Tim Iroegbunam and Matt Crooks are set to return from minor issues.

Head-to-head

Chelse and Hull have met in 28 matches across all competitions. The Blues have claimed 20 wins compared to just one for the Tigers, while seven games have been drawn.

The teams’ most recent meeting was in the Fourth Round of last season’s FA Cup, with Chelsea winning 4-0 away from home.

Quotes

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso after the defeat to Arsenal:

“We did many things right, other things we need to make better. We need to learn from them, because this is the top level and when we have to play at the top level we want to be as efficient and as accurate in all the phases of the game as possible. But this is where we are. This is game three for us in this new start, this new phase for Chelsea, but I am happy with the spirit and attitude of the players. They have given everything, they have tried and they fought really hard.”
