Italy will be aiming to build on their impressive run of form when they meet Switzerland in a UEFA Group C 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Sunday evening.

The Azzurri will travel to Basel after hosting Bulgaria in Florence where they will be aiming to equal Spain and Brazil's all-time international record of 34 competitive games without defeat.

Switzerland will be under new management in Basel following the appointment of Murat Yakin at the start of August. The former Swiss international took over the reins from Vladimir Petković who served as head coach of Nati for seven years.

Italy, who won the Euro 2020 tournament with victory over England in the final back in July, sit top of their World Cup qualifying group following three successive 2-0 wins.

"We can improve in the 14 months from now until the World Cup," Mancini told a news conference on Monday.

"Nothing has changed. Our life will go on and our work too. We have won the European Championship, we have made ourselves and 60 million Italians happy. This is what made us so proud, the fact that we gave happiness to all these people.

"But there are still five qualifying matches to go and these must be treated with care. We start again against players who have already played in the league for eight or nine matches. The important thing is to qualify, then we will have time for the final phase," he added.

Switzerland, who reached the quarterfinal stage at Euro 2020, are also unbeaten in their quest to reach Qatar after two wins from two matches in their allotted fixtures.
