Midfield battle heats up ahead of Austrian GP

2019 Formula 1 season Round 9

Austrian Grand Prix

Red Bull Ring, Spielberg
Sunday 30 June

The midfield battle will continue to provide thrills and spills when Round 9 of the 2019 Formula 1 season, the Austrian Grand Prix, is held at the Red Bull Ring on Sunday 30 June.

The last race in France saw McLaren continue their rise, as Carlos Sainz Jr came home in an impressive sixth place, while teammate Lando Norris nursed home his wounded car in ninth to ensure a double points haul for the English-based team.

Daniel Ricciardo was demoted due to penalties at the French Grand Prix.

Renault will be hoping to reclaim the ‘best of the rest’ (fourth place behind Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull) on the Constructors’ Championship standings, having been hit hard by driver Daniel Ricciardo picking up two five-second penalties for dangerous racing on the final lap in France – this saw him demoted from seventh to 11th.

Meanwhile, Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen is back in form after finishing seventh at Paul Ricard, while the Haas duo of Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean will hope the Red Bull Ring is a circuit where their tempestuous cars are back on the pace, following several weekends of struggles.

Kimi Raikkonen will look to build on a decent showing in France.

The same can said for Racing Point (formerly Force India) whose only top-10 finish in the last four races came from Canadian Lance Stroll in his home Grand Prix earlier this month.

And as for the once great Williams team, the Austrian Grand Prix may just give them hope of a first point in the 2019 season.
