Alex Marquez will look to bounce back to his consistent form when the seventh round of the 2025 MotoGP World Championship, the Grand Prix of the United Kingdom, is held at the Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire this weekend.

Marquez went into the previous round in France as the Riders’ Championship leader, having shown superb consistency (four podiums, including his first win) in the first five full-length races of the season.

However, at Le Mans, the younger Marquez brother suffered two crashes and ultimately retired from the French Grand Prix – allowing sibling Marc Marquez to open a 22-point lead over him at the top of the standings.

Both Marquez brothers were among the 13 riders who dived into the pits for their dry bikes on the sighting lap of the restart in France, and although the decision eventually went against them due to worsening rain (allowing Johann Zarco to triumph on home soil), Alex stood by the decision.

“We did the best strategy for our championship. The winner did another strategy that worked out better, but it was too risky in the moment that we are in,” said the BK8 Gresini Ducati rider.

He added, “The two crashes, especially the first one, hurts me a little bit. I was really comfortable in third position. Maybe I relaxed a little bit, I went in slower and put a little bit more lean angle to turn the bike and suddenly, I lost the rear.

“The second crash, I just need to say sorry to the team. I went in too hot with a bike that was really damaged. The positives are many this weekend, but we cannot lose points like this.”

In four MotoGP races at Silverstone, Alex Marquez has never finished on the podium, with his best results coming last year, when he was sixth in the sprint race and seventh in the full-length Grand Prix.
