Marc Marquez looks to build his advantage

2019 MotoGP season

Round 8, Motul TT Assen

TT Circuit, Assen

Sunday 30 June

MotoGP World Championship leader Marc Marquez will look to build on his advantage at the top of the standings when Round 8 of the 2019 season sees the running of the Motul TT Assen in the Netherlands.

Marquez secured a third victory from the last four races when he took the chequered flag at the previous round in Barcelona. The Spaniard greatly benefited from his teammate crashing into nearest rival Andrea Dovizioso in an accident which also eliminated Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales.

Valentino Rossi has won two of the last four Dutch TT races

Marquez holds a healthy 37-point lead over second-placed Dovizioso in the standings and will believe he can triumph at the TT Circuit Assen for a second year in a row.

One of his main rivals in this regard could be Rossi, who has won two of the last four Dutch TT races and has eight premier-class victories at the circuit dating back as fas as 2002.

Andrea Dovizioso will hope to close the gap in the Championship.

Yet it is more likely to be the Ducati pair of Dovizioso and teammate Danilo Petrucci who will fancy their chances of challenging Marquez, while the ever-improving Suzuki rider Alex Rins is another to keep an eye out for.

The TT Circuit Assen was also the scene of one of the greatest upsets in MotoGP history when a rain-hit race in 2016 was won by non-factory rider Jack Miller. Now on a Ducati, the Australian will hope for another wet race come Sunday.
