Spain will be looking to reach the UEFA EURO final for the fifth time when they face Italy in a semi-final match on July 6.

The Red Fury took part in the final in 1964, 1984, 2008 and 2012 and they have won the tournament three times.

They have never lost in the semi-finals of Europe's most prestigious football tournament having played four last four matches and won all of them.

Spain's last semi-final appearance came at the 2012 tournament and they claimed a 4-2 win over Portugal on penalties following a 0-0 draw at the Donbass Arena in Donetsk, Ukraine.

Furthermore, the Red Fury are unbeaten in their last five matches in the European Championships having recorded three wins and two draws.

Their last defeat came against Italy in the EURO 2016 Round of 16 encounter which ended in a 2-0 win in favour of the Italians at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, France.

Luis Enrique, the Spain head coach, says reaching the semi-finals is fantastic and it fills his side with a great sense of pride.

“I’ve always said we were one of the eight teams who had a chance of winning the title but it was dependent on our performances," Enrique said.

“Now we are in the last four that is fantastic and fills us with a great sense of pride.

“It would be ridiculous to think the four semi-finalists aren’t going to be thinking about going one further and go to the final.”

The last meeting between Italy and Spain was on 2 September 2017.

Spain proved too strong for Italy as they ran out 3-0 winners in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier that was played at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid.
