2021/22 English Premier League

Matchday 26

Arsenal v Brentford

Emirates Stadium
London, England
Saturday, 19 February 2022
Kick-off is at 17h00

Arsenal will be out to avenge their opening-day defeat to Brentford when the two London rivals clash at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, February 19.

The Bees ran out convincing 2-0 victors in the first-ever Premier League meeting between the two clubs on August 13 and went unbeaten in their first three games since winning promotion via the Championship play-offs.

However, Thomas Frank's side has found the going much harder as the season progressed and recorded only five more victories since then.

The west Londoners halted a five-match losing streak with the goalless draw at home to Crystal Palace on February 12, which lifted them up to 14th place in the table, seven points clear of the relegation zone.

Frank was delighted to pick up a clean sheet after seeing his defence ship 14 goals in their previous five encounters, although he feels they can also improve in attack.

"I think in general I'm pleased we got a point. Today if there should have been a winner it was us," the Dane said in his post-match interview.

"It was a big positive to get a clean sheet, but we need to do better on the ball, have more quality in the final third. I'm a positive man so I will look at it as a good point. But I'm also eager and want to have more, to do more.

"I like the consistency in the performance. We gave very little away. We need to do more offensively, but I think one day we'll just be explosive."

The Gunners remain in the mix for Champions League football after a 1-0 win at Wolves on February 10 took them within two points of fourth-placed West Ham.

Mikel Arteta's men had gone winless in their previous two outings - a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City followed by a goalless draw against Burnley - but their 12th victory of the campaign sees them occupy sixth spot.

Arteta is looking no further than the next game in the race for a top-four finish and remains focused on the task ahead as he looks to get closer to a return to Champions League nights at the Emirates.

"You don't know how many points we're going to need to get to the objectives, but as well, we need to look at ourselves and focus on what we're doing and go game by game because we can't look too far ahead," the Spaniard said.
