Daniel Ricciardo hoping to build on strong China showing

2019 Formula 1 season, Round 4

Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Baku City Circuit, Baku

Sunday 28 April

Renault driver Daniel Ricciardo will be looking to build on his strong showing at the last Formula 1 race when Round 4 of the current season, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, is held at the Baku City Circuit on Sunday 28 April.

The Australian, after back-to-back retirements in his first two races for the yellow-clad team, came home in seventh place at the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai earlier in the month – the best position he can attain assuming that the six cars from the three leading teams – Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull – all finish the race.

Kimi Raikkonen of Alfa Romeo.

His teammate Nico Hulkenberg claimed seventh at the season-opener in Australia but has since failed to finish a race due to reliability failures. He will be itching to get back in the points as Renault look to defend their ‘best of the rest’ title from Alfa Romeo, Haas and McLaren.

Alfa’s Kimi Raikkonen is the seventh-placed driver in the Championship standings and he will be looking to continue his consistency (three points-scoring finishes thus far) on the streets of Baku.

Toro Rosso driver Alexander Albon.

Another mid-to-lower order competitor to watch out for is Toro Rosso’s Alexander Albon. The Thai driver started the Chinese GP in the pit lane but came home for a 10th-place finish and was a deserved winner of the media’s ‘driver of the day’ award.

The likes of Lando Norris (McLaren), Kevin Magnussen (Haas), Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll (both Force India) will be hoping to improve their standings, while Carlos Sainz Jr needs some improvement on his luck as he chases a first points finish in the orange of McLaren.
