Uganda’s last appearance in the competition in Gabon 2017 – their first showing at the showpiece in 39 years – saw them exit at the group stage after a solitary draw and two defeats. Head Coach Sebastian Desabre will be eager to improve on their last outing and has selected a largely African-based squad with just seven of his 23-man troop plying their trade outside it’s shores.

21-year-old Farouk Miya plays his club football for Croatian side Gorica and scored the cranes only goal in Gabon two years ago – he has been selected once again and is in fact the youngest player included as part of the coaches plans.

DR Congo on the other hand have a strong squad with a host of instantly recognisable names from the European stage. Head Coach Florent Ibenge and the class of 2019 are hoping to replicate the success of the late-sixties and early-seventies during which the national team celebrated its ‘glory years’, claiming the highest prize in Africa on a couple of occasions (1968 and 1974).

English Premier League stars both past and present including Arthur Masuaku, Chancel Mbemba, Youssouf Mulumbu and Yannick Bolasie will all be out to make their mark alongside the likes of leading striker Cedric Bakambu. The 28-year-old forward who features regularly for club side Beijing Guaon in China, has netted 8 goals in 21 appearances for the Leopards

This will be the pair second-ever meeting after they faced off during the qualification process for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
