2022/23 English Premier League

Matchday 3

Bournemouth v Arsenal

Vitality Stadium
Bournemouth, England
Saturday, 20 August 2022
Kick-off is at 18h30

Arsenal will be looking to make it three wins from three in the Premier League when they journey to the south coast to take on newly-promoted Bournemouth on Saturday, August 20.

Mikel Arteta's side began the new season with a 2-0 victory over London neighbours Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park followed by a 4-2 thumping of Leicester at the Emirates Stadium last weekend.

Gabriel Jesus scored twice in the first half against the Foxes to register his first competitive goals for the Gunners since making the switch from Manchester City last month.

The north Londoners share the lead with defending champions City as the only two remaining teams with a 100 per cent record in the league after the opening two rounds.

Arteta hailed the performance and the mentality of Jesus, admitting the Brazilian cast a despondent figure after the final whistle as he felt he could have bagged another two goals.

"We know what Gabby can do. He scored two and assisted two and he's still disappointed in the dressing room because he said he could have scored four," the Spanish tactician said.

"That's the standard, that's the mentality that if you want to go to a different level you need that mentality.

"I wouldn't like to play against him. I have never been a defender but I can imagine that they don't enjoy it. He's so mobile, so intuitive and is always sharp and proactive to play in any moment and any phase of the game and he's a real threat."

The Cherries suffered a resounding 4-0 loss to the Citizens on the road at the weekend, having found themselves 3-0 down at half-time.

Parker isn't too concerned with the result against City, however, as he knew coming away from the Etihad Stadium with even point would have been a tall order.

"We played against a world-class team that can execute in any given moment," he said. "You have to be clinical. We didn't manage to do that and then the quality they have shone through.

"After the goals go in you could be on the end of one, but I was pleased with the team in the way they stuck at it with good endeavour, good personality and good courage. We can be pleased with that.

"Our season is not this. Man City away is not a team that will define our season. This is a game we need to analyse of course and we'll do that and see where we can improve and get better. We'll dust ourselves down and go again."
