Team Suzuki Ecstar's Alex Rins is looking to keep making progress in the fourth round of the 2022 season at the Grand Prix of the Americas on Sunday, April 10.

The Spaniard knows what it takes to succeed in Austin, Texas after claiming his maiden MotoGP win on the Circuit of the Americas in 2019.

Rins has three premier-class victories to his name and secured his first podium of the year with a P3 in the Argentine Grand Prix last weekend to move up to fourth in the riders' standings.

The 26-year-old kicked off the campaign with a P7 in the Qatar Grand Prix and improved in the second race when he picked up P5 in the Indonesian Grand Prix.

Rins admits he was surprised to end up on the podium given the level of competition and having only qualified seventh on the grid.

"Yeah, for sure I'm so happy for the race. Sincerely I didn't expect to finish on the podium starting from seventh, on the third row, because the level of MotoGP is super high," he said.

"So, it's not like before. Before I could start in P10 and overtake some riders and arrive there to the podium. But we did a really good start, all the race maintaining this position and trying to arrive to Jorge [Martin] and Aleix [Espargaro].

"In the end I couldn't, so this third position for me, for the championship, for Suzuki, is an important podium. It's a long time for me since I finished on the podium.

"But anyway, let's try to keep the same work like we did this weekend and also in the previous weekends."
