AFCON 2019 to take centre stage in Africa

The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals will be played in Egypt between June 21 and July 19.

Cameroon are the defending champions having won the previous tournament which was hosted by Gabon in 2017. 
 
The Indomitable Lions, who have been pitted against Ghana, Benin and Guinea-Bissau in Group F, will look to retain their title which would be their sixth trophy.

They would be one short of the record - seven titles - which is currently held by this year's hosts Egypt.
 
The Pharaohs have been drawn against Zimbabwe, Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in Group A.

Group D has been considered to be the group of death as it features three former winners, South Africa, Ivory Coast and Morocco as well as Namibia.
 
Nigeria, who are three-time AFCON title winners, are the favourites to win Group B which features Guinea, Madagascar and Burundi.

Senegal are widely considered as one of the favourites to win this year's tournament, but they will have to ensure that they advance from their group.
 
The Lions of Teranga, who have never won the AFCON title, find themselves in Group C along with Algeria, Kenya and Tanzania.

Tunisia are also expected to mount a serious challenge for this year's AFCON title after featuring in 2018 FIFA World Cup finals.
 
The Carthage Eagles have lifted the prestigious title once in 2004 as tournament hosts and they have been drawn in Group E.
 
The group features Angola, 1972 runners-up Mali and debutants Mauritania.
