2026 MotoGP World Championship
Round 14
Red Bull Grand Prix of San Marino and the Rimini Riviera
Sunday 13 September, 14:00
The 2026 MotoGP World Championship arrives at Misano for Round 14 with the title battle finely poised, and Fabio Di Giannantonio will be looking to turn a disappointing Aragon weekend into a crucial opportunity to regain momentum.
Di Giannantonio heads to the Red Bull Grand Prix of San Marino and the Rimini Riviera fourth in the riders’ standings on 208 points, 48 behind championship leader Jorge Martin. Marc Marquez is second on 237, while Martin’s Aprilia Racing teammate Marco Bezzecchi sits just five points further back on 232. Ai Ogura, on 203, completes the top five.
For Di Giannantonio, the need for a response is particularly pressing after he endured his worst race weekend of the season at MotorLand. Seventh in the Grand Prix was his poorest result apart from the chaotic Hungarian round, where he finished 12th after being caught up in a first-corner incident. A Sprint crash compounded his Aragon struggles.
“We've been off the pace this weekend, absolutely. I cannot hide myself from this,” Di Giannantonio admitted afterwards, describing Aragon as “the toughest weekend”.
Yet the VR46 rider remains optimistic because he believes his team has identified the reasons behind the lack of performance. That could make Misano, his home Grand Prix, the perfect place to respond.
“We are positive because we know exactly what's happening [for two] weekends,” he said. “So we have a lot of work to do, but the good thing is that we know what happened and we can turn it around.”
Di Giannantonio added: “I really hope that we can fix it in Misano. There are major chances that we can fix it.”
The wider championship picture makes every point increasingly valuable. Aprilia leads the constructors’ standings with 374 points, ahead of Ducati on 350, while Aprilia Racing also tops the teams’ championship with 461 points. Trackhouse is second on 389, followed by Ducati Lenovo on 355 and VR46 on 252.
Martin therefore arrives at Misano with a 19-point advantage over Marquez, but Bezzecchi is only 24 points behind his teammate. Di Giannantonio, meanwhile, cannot afford another off-colour weekend if he is to remain within striking distance.
With home support behind him and confidence that the Aragon problems can be solved, Misano offers Di Giannantonio an immediate chance to close the gap.
