After a disappointing outing on home soil at the San Marino MotoGP this past weekend, Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi will now shift his focus to the Austrian MotoGP where he will aim to close the gap on Jorge Martin and Marc Marquez.
The stage was set for Bezzecchi to shine at home in San Marino on Sunday, particularly after he blitzed the lap record to finish in pole position for the main race.
However, the Italian crashed at Turn 13 on the opening lap allowing Marquez to soar to victory as he tumbled 33 points behind the summit.
Sitting in third position, Bezzecchi claimed four wins this season after impressive performances at the Thailand, Brazil, Americas and Italian MotoGPs. As one of the contenders for the title, the Aprilia rider noted eight podiums before crashing in San Marino.
Reflecting on his crash at San Marino, Bezzecchi claimed that he braked incorrectly at Turn 13 and lost the front of his bike after he felt a shake en-route to the corner.
“Unfortunately, everything was going well, but I did a mistake in Turn 13 and I lost the front,” Bezzecchi said.
“When you have a full fuel tank, you have to manage the braking point a little bit better.
“I had a bit of a shake in the fast part, so when I braked I didn’t close the line perfectly and unfortunately I lost the front.”
